On October 25, 2001, speechwriters gathered at the National Science
Foundation to hear from Marc Abshire (then speechwriter to the
secretary of the Air Force), who gave a powerful and moving talk about
the September 11th attacks. After Marc's talk, there was a broad
discussion of how speechwriters have responded to and written about the
national tragedy.
